Welcoming The Herds to Tower Bridge
City Bridge Foundation proudly welcomed THE HERDS to Tower Bridge — where art met action on their epic 20,000km climate journey from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle.

On Friday 27 June, Tower Bridge became a gateway for climate activism and creative expression as THE HERDS arrived in London for the first part of their UK journey.
Led by a coalition of artists, activists and organisations across the globe, THE HERDS is a large-scale public art project and climate intervention like no other. From April to August 2025, life-sized puppet animals are travelling a 20,000km route from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle. Along the way, they are gathering people, stories and momentum, shining a spotlight on the devastating human and environmental impact of climate breakdown.
Their arrival at Tower Bridge was more than a visual spectacle, it was a call to action. At City Bridge Foundation, we’re proud to welcome THE HERDS to London via one of the five Thames crossings we care for. Tower Bridge isn’t just a global icon, it’s part of our 900-year legacy as both a bridge owner and London’s largest independent charity funder. As stewards of some of the capital’s most historic infrastructure, we’re committed to a greener, fairer future for everyone who calls this city home.
“THE HERDS connects climate crisis with human creativity in a way that’s urgent, ambitious and deeply moving. As both a funder and bridge owner, City Bridge Foundation is proud to welcome this extraordinary project to London, and support collective action towards a greener, fairer future.”
Alison Gowman CBE, Board Member and Climate Lead, City Bridge Foundation
Climate action and equity are not just causes we support, they are core to everything we do. From funding grassroots environmental initiatives to embedding sustainability in our bridge maintenance and investments, we are actively working towards a net-zero London. Welcoming THE HERDS is a reminder that meaningful progress depends on collaboration, creativity and community-led change.
As THE HERDS continue their journey through London and beyond, we’re proud that their message crossed our bridge — both literally and symbolically. Because the road to climate justice must be one we walk together.
