A statement from City Bridge Foundation

“City Bridge Foundation’s first responsibility is the maintenance of five Thames bridges at no cost to the taxpayer. Only funds not required for the bridges are available for our charitable work supporting Londoners.

“Our grant was specifically made to Muslim Charities Forum for its work in London and it is completely false to claim that any City Bridge Foundation funding went to the Al-Khair Foundation.

“Every grant application is subject to robust checks and ongoing monitoring and our funding approach and policy is kept under regular review.

“Our five bridges are open, safe and in good condition. London’s other bridges are the responsibility of other organisations, which we work with through other industry groups.

“We are proud to support charities tackling inequality and helping communities across the capital.”
